Hip Arthroscopic Surgery

The hip joint is the largest joint in the body, but it does not always require a large incision or open surgery for repairs. Arthroscopic surgery for the hip can be performed through one or more small incisions in the joint area, limiting tissue damage and reducing pain for the patient. Experienced orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kerisimasi Reynolds offers minimally-invasive hip arthroscopic surgery as a treatment option at his practice in the San Jose area.

Arthroscopy is a form of surgery that uses an arthroscope, a tiny light and digital camera that can enter joints through a very small incision. The lens on the arthroscope transmits the images of the interior joint to a monitor, giving the orthopedic surgeon a detailed view of the tissues and components. This method of surgery requires less trauma to the surrounding tissues and skin than open surgery. Most hip arthroscopic surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home the same day. Recovery and pain can be reduced, as well as costs, when compared to open surgery for the hip.

Hip Conditions Treated with Arthroscopic Surgery

Many repairs to the hip joint can be accomplished through arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Reynolds specializes in arthroscopy and recommends this method for surgical treatment whenever possible. Common hip conditions that may be repaired through arthroscopy include:

  • Bone spurs
  • Bursitis
  • Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)
  • Iliotibial (IT) Band Syndrome
  • Labral tears
  • Loose bodies in the hip
  • Snapping Hip Syndrome
  • Tendon tears

If you are suffering from any of these hip conditions or need diagnosis of your hip problem, arthroscopy may be an option. Contact Dr. Reynolds’ practice in San Jose to schedule a consultation and exam to discuss your hip condition and explore the possibility of hip arthroscopy for improved diagnosis and treatment.
